Xperia users to get free music for 6 months courtesy Sony Music Jive

Xperia users across India will get to listen to their favourite bollywood track for free for first six months from the date of purchase of their device.  Sony today launched Sony Music Jive offering the music to its Xperia buyers.

The service allows consumers to download and and/or stream music for free from Sony Music's catalogue of songs. The company will be premiering content exclusively for its Xperia devices, with the first one being a single from the soundtrack of hindi film 'Ek Thi Daayan'

As per a press release, Sony Music Jive gives you free access to artists such as Elvis Presley, Bruce Springsteen, Whitney Houston, Aerosmith, Bob Dylan, Micheal Jackson, Santana, AR Rahman, Shakira, Beyonce, Keisha, Pitbull, KK, Lucky Ali, Strings, Daler Mehendi, Harris Jayraj, Kailash Kher and more for a period of 6 months.

The service is free for the first six months from the date of purchase and consumers can then opt to subscribe to it after the initial free period.   Users can browse through multiple genres, ranging from pop, rock and hip hop to dance and Indian regional. The songs can be downloaded as MP3 also. 

Sony, which owns the Sony Music will offer content to its users with a tag ‘First on Jive’.  How far it can achieve success in getting subscriptions past the free period remains to be seen.  Similar kind of service is offered by Nokia Music Unlimited, Saavn and iTunes.  However Nokia offers only downloads, Saavn offers only streaming and iTunes is totally a paid service.  The Jive will be combination of all three.  You can stream or download free for six months and then the music will be subscription based.

However it is not known whether the service will be available to users who have already bought Xperia before this launch.  I will report any news about via a update.
