Ever heard of a Spyware App called SteathGenie. This App which was available for both iPhone and Android devices, was used by user to tap into other people's mobile devices and listen to their calls and tap into their chats and message. The developer was targeting the Apps specifically at jealous husbands and boyfriends or vice versa or to tap into your exes or who suspect cheating by a spouse or partner.
However the Justice Department of United States of America didnt take kindly to such kind of privacy violation by any one. As result of its investigations, the Justice Department today indicted the developer and head of the Pakistani company, InvoCode Pvt Ltd, which had developed and sold StealthGenie.
The Justice Department on Monday arrested Hammad Akbar, 31, of Lahore, Pakistan in what is said to be the first-ever criminal case concerning the advertisement and sale of a mobile device spyware App. Akbar was charged in the indictment with conspiracy, sale of a surreptitious interception device and related charges.
The App lets users monitor voice calls and chats on other peoples mobile devices running either on iOS or Android OS.
While the intentions of the Justice Department need a applaud, there are many such Apps like mSpy, Mobile Spy and many others available to the users for a cost. Also though SteathGenie has been shut down, a cached version of the website is still available though with a innocent looking disclaimer saying the software must not be used to monitor the smartphone of anyone over 18 without their written consent.
